Cedar Philosophy & Letter
Camp Cedar Description

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING LETTER IF INTERESTED IN A POSITION:

Dear Prospective Staff Member,

We are pleased you are interested in joining us a staff member this summer. Before you complete your application, we could like you to take a few minutes to learn a little more about working at Cedar. Camp Cedar is family owned and is recognized as one of the best camps in the camping industry. It is essentially a learning environment with an emphasis on human relations combined with athletic, creative, adventure and water based activities. We welcome individuals from all religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

To work at Cedar you will need:

A responsible attitude - you are caring for the children of others
An ability to relate well to others - you will be living, working and eating with others for 8 weeks
A willingness to work hard
To have completed at least one year of college
Outstanding recommendations from employers, teachers, coaches, or adults other than relatives and college friends
Evidence of having the ability to affect the lives of young people in a positive manner
The job of camp counselor is very rewarding, however it is not always an easy job and we would like to highlight some common misconceptions:

"It's an easy job"

Not so. The directors, parents, and campers have high expectations of all our staff members. For camp to function well everyone has to work hard.

"It's easy to handle children effectively."

Many people have a knack for getting along well with kids but it is nearly impossible to go through the summer without some difficulties. You'll get along well if you treat others with respect, are even-tempered, have a sense of humor, sincerely like working with others and are willing to share yourself unselfishly.

Some representative comments from previous counselors:

"It was the best summer of my life."

"I had no idea that I would work so hard, but the experience was rewarding."

"These kids are a lot different than when I was growing up."

“The summer was awesome. I can’t think of a better place to be again next summer.”

“I met some excellent people who I’ll never forget and hopefully stay lifelong friends with.”

“I feel that this summer helped me to develop as a person and gain more self confidence.”

“I feel very proud to have been part of a child’s life-learning experience, and to have been an advisor or just a shoulder to cry on.”

“There were times when I felt I couldn’t deal with particular situations, but I proved to myself I could and dealt with them. In fact, I surprised myself with my own capabilities.”

In return for all your hard work and effort, you will be rewarded in addition to your salary with:

excellent living and working conditions
an opportunity to meet people from a variety of backgrounds and to make new friends
an opportunity to develop leadership skills
a summer spent in a healthy setting
a wide variety of experiences, and rewards derived from participating in the growth of others while learning about yourself
possible college credit
the chance to have a great time!
Please take the time to fill out the application as fully as possible. We need the information on three references requested at the end of the application in order to proceed with the interview process. We will contact you once we have received your application and reference information.

We look forward to receiving you application soon. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to email us at campcedarjobs@aol.com if you have any questions.

Sincerely ,

The Camp Cedar Family
